Lo Humans of New York delle letture in metropolitana

Literary Conversation with Yaa Gyasi, author of Homegoing. Yaa: “I wrote this book for someone like me, who has all of these questions about identity, how to navigate race and ethnicity, how to walk the line between my Ghanaian-ness and my American-ness. Homegoing is me working through this. I didn’t know if other people were going to be interested in those same questions, but they felt deeply personal. The best thing you can do as a writer, is to write into your own specificity. The more specific and the more deeply personal something is, the more universal it becomes.” ✨ Read the full interview with Yaa Gyasi on www.subwaybookreview.com✨ link in bio #interview #author #yaagyasi #homegoing #novel #ghana #america #slavery #family #blackfolk #spirit #ancestors #roots #book #amreading #newyork #manhattan #subwaybookreview

Nelle linee G e F i passeggeri leggono moltissimo, invece».

One of my all time faves ✨artist & writer @currentlyelise of @erpshopco #repost Elise: “The author is a profound feminist. She gives talks, she’s a published author, a scholar and she was sampled on Beyoncé’s last album on the track ‘Flawless’ talking about feminism. This particular book is based on a TEDx talk she gave about the realities of sexual politics. We’re raising boys and girls differently when they should really be raised the same. We should be true to ourselves. Feminism becomes less of a daunting topic in her words. It’s like you’re listening to a wise woman in your family. When I first learned about feminism it seemed like an ideology that was made by and for white, intellectual women. I feel connected to her work because of the nuances she touches on that regard the Black American and the African experience in America. Ultimately it’s not about negating or discrediting any woman – it’s about celebrating all women. Reading her work finally made me feel like I was included in the conversation.” Reading: We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. @currentlyelise #feminist #beyonce #flawless #blackfolk #bookreview #brooklyn #newyork #sbrnewyork #subwaybookreview Una foto pubblicata da Subway Book Review (@subwaybookreview) in data:
